Apex Dynamics takes a new step into the medium-end segment with the introduction of the PFII series of planetary gearboxes. This innovative series combines functionality with an extremely compact design and offers a unique solution: a coaxial configuration with a hollow input and output shaft. Thanks to its excellent performance and smart design choices, the PFII series is a powerful addition to our range, ideal for applications that require the right balance between precision, power and simplicity.

Technical specifications and features

The PFII series of planetary gearboxes is designed with an innovative combination of functionality and performance. With three available sizes and an impressive range of gear ratios from 3:1 to 1000:1, this series offers unparalleled flexibility for various applications. The rated torque is up to 228 Nm, and the backlash is limited to less than 6 arc minutes, which contributes to the high precision.

One of the most striking features of the PFII series is the hollow input and output shaft, executed in a coaxial arrangement. This means that the output shaft is in line with the motor shaft, resulting in a compact and efficient design. The hardened planetary gears also ensure a combination of high torque and precise operation, with low noise levels and high speeds.

The adapter flanges are made of lightweight aluminum, which reduces the overall weight of the gearbox without compromising performance. Alloy steel has been chosen for the internal gearing, which supports both high torques and rigidity.

Innovative clamping: simplicity and strength combined

A key differentiator of the PFII series is the way the output shaft is clamped. Both the input and output shafts use a radial clamping ring, but for the higher torques on the output side, the clamping ring is equipped with two radial bolts.

This clever clamping method offers significant advantages over traditional systems such as a shrink disk:

  • Faster assembly thanks to only two clamping bolts.
  • Compact design due to radial fixation.
  • Higher tolerances for the shaft to be driven.
  • Easier disassembly, which simplifies maintenance and adjustments.

In addition, the use of clamping instead of a key makes the PFII series ideally suited for dynamic applications.

Practical applications and benefits

The PFII series is designed for use in shaft-driven actuators, linear units and machine axes that require power and precision. Thanks to its compact design, there is no need for a large housing, lantern piece or shaft-to-shaft coupling, saving both space and cost.

The design reduces the risk of over-determination by not allowing the hollow output shaft to experience radial or axial loads. This makes the PFII series a reliable choice for a wide range of industrial applications.
