Apex Dynamics introduces Backlash-Free Couplings
Apex Dynamics, manufacturer of low-backlash gearboxes, racks, pinions and lubrication systems, is expanding its product range with a completely new line: backlash-free couplings. The first series available are the Elastomer couplings (E-series) and the Disc couplings (D-series). These couplings can not only be mounted directly on the gearboxes of Apex Dynamics, but are also suitable for a wide range of shafts, such as motor shafts, drive shafts and distribution shafts. Apex Dynamics is so convinced of the quality of its new product that we give a 5-year warranty on it after delivery!
Elastomer-couplings (E-series)
The E-series is an extensive line of elastomer couplings – also called star or spider couplings – that are available in eight different mounting options. They offer a backlash-free torque transmission by pre-tensioning and are capable of transmitting torques up to 11,000 Nm without a keyway (and even more with a keyway).

Disc-couplings (D-series)
The D-series, named after the English word ‘Disc’, is a high-quality servo coupling that transmits torque without play and at the same time absorbs misalignment. The coupling offers extreme torsional stiffness, but remains flexible and is designed to withstand high speeds and temperatures. The shaft can be secured by means of 1 or 2 radial clamping bolts (with or without keyway) or with a clamping ring that is tightened axially. The couplings can transmit up to 3,000 Nm on clamping force alone (so without keyway). Combinations are possible, so for example on 1 side with a clamping bolt, on the other side with a clamping ring.
A Disc coupling is also called a plate or multi-plate coupling. It is a high-performance servo coupling designed to transmit torque (by connecting two shafts) while accommodating misalignment. It is designed to be flexible, while maintaining torsional strength under high torque loads. The D-series can transmit torques up to 3,000 Nm and can handle speeds up to 18,300 rpm.

Technical details and mounting options
The couplings from Apex Dynamics are available in various versions, with the hubs being largely made of aluminium to keep the mass inertia low. Depending on the application, a single-stage or two-stage version can be selected. The two-stage version can accommodate larger alignment errors and axial length changes.
The couplings can be mounted force-fitted, form-fitted or a combination of both. An overview of the different types:
